General Registry Offices Indexes (GRO)

These pages contain all of the Birth, Marriages and Deaths index records from the General Register Office (GRO), presently in the Family Records Centre London, up to 1900. I have extracted all index records, which means to 2001, a total of more than 29,000 records. For marriages after 1912, where the spouse's name is given, I have cross referenced the entries to get the spouse's full name. Where I have further information on an event, such as the actual event date, I include that as well. These details are not in these pages though (see the "About this Site" page).

I have found the Male and Female spouse lists very useful, together with the one that constructs families ( It lists marriages of male Chiltons, where the spouse surname is known, and Chilton births, where the mother's maiden name is known - saves a lot of time!) In line with the main lists I am limiting these spouse lists to up to 1900.
